Be honest how often are we really bothered to properly clean our face after having makeup on all day?
I am guilty of using makeup wipes all over my face then using face wash with warm water and call it a day! However, that doesn’t help my skin in the long run so I took it upon myself to do some research and find products to add to my skin care routine. I am in no means an expert but I do believe investing in skincare is important especially since mine is sensitive. As I have a darker skin tone I opt to use a combination of Korean and Australian skincare products to combat the dryness in my skin. It has been a journey to get to this point in my skin care routine so I thought why not share it with you.
Just to note, you're more than welcome to incorporate any of these products to your current skincare routine if you choose to do so. I would recommend consulting your skin specialist first if you're unsure.
1. Water based cleanser
I use the CeraVe Foaming Cleanser to remove my makeup carefully with gentle circular motions all over my face for about a minute. The water based cleanser is basically ensuring all the makeup and dirt has completely washed off and left my skin feeling smooth. Being gentle with your skin is key. I opt for the normal to oily skin as I have a complexion that falls in the middle but tends to get on the oily side on my T zone.
2. Serums/Treatments
This is normally my favourite part in the routine as it’s time to focus on my hyperpigmentation and problem areas that need attention. The Vitamin C Brightening Serum from Skin & Lab is my go to. We all want to be confident in our skin so why not give it a little TLC. I squeeze out 3 drops on my palm and pat it around my face and neck gently making sure all the product has been used. This section is different for everyone as you may want to focus on different aspects of your face that need treatment and not necessarily reduce darker spots.
3. Facial moisturiser
Nearing the end of the routine I always ensure to apply some sort of moisturiser. I have decided to add a day time and night time moisturiser which I have been loving.
In my night time routine I gravitate towards the CeraVe Moisturising Lotion for dry to very dry skin. I find this product hydrating after I have done my entire skin care routine without the sticky feeling.
4. Sun Screen
My morning routine consists of me making sure I use the Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Dry Touch on all areas which are uncovered. It doesn’t feel oily on the skin once applied which is why it’s my go to. You will hear every dermatologist mention sun screen being the most important product for any skin type.
5. Lip mask
This is a step I don‘t like to miss since my lips tend to dry out easily and are in need of some care. Since we are currently in the warmer months my lips need something extra on top of just chapstick throughout the day. It also helps in the cooler months which I don’t shy away from. No harm comes with some extra lip care! I never used to consider my lips when doing a skin care routine but it is on your face after all and no one wants chapped lips! My favourite currently is the LANEIGE lip sleeping mask in berry. Once applied it feels like a thick layer moisturising your lips. A little goes a long way as you can instantly feel your lips getting hydrated.
